FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • what is "soap"?

"Soap is a surfactant, which means that it helps water to wet things more evenly. Soap molecules have tails which attract dirt and pull away from the surface that it is on. The soap then suspends the dirt in a lather until it can be washed away. Soap is made by combining an alkaline solution with animal fats or vegetable oils, which are acidic. When mixed under the right circumstances, they neutralize to form a new compound which we call "soap." This results in the process known as saponification. (Handmade Soap, Tatyana Hill)

  • "sodium hydroxide" (lye) is listed as an ingredient in all of your soaps. how is it then still natural?

Although sodium hydroxide (lye) is listed as an ingredient in all of our soaps, there is no lye in our soaps. Confused? Let me break this down: Yes, lye is a very vital ingredient used to make soap. Once the chemical reaction between the lye and fatty acids in the butters/oils takes place, a completely different substance remains and that my frens, is SOAP. This is that process we mentioned before called saponification. In essence, without sodium hydroxide you don't get soap. You'd just get an oily/buttery mess.

  • is ROI Naturals soap organic?

Our mission and aim has always been to provide bars that are made with all, if not mostly, organic ingredients. While we would love our products to be certified by the USDA as organic, this is an extensive process in which we have determined (at this time) to not be feasible for ROI Naturals. We take pride in the ingredients we source and can assure that at minimum, 80% of our bars are made with organic ingredients, making them all natural.

  • what is the difference between synthetic fragrances and essential oils?

A synthetic fragrance is generally created in a lab using toxic chemicals that cause harmful health implications and negatively impact the environment. They are often labeled under the disguise of the term "fragrance" or "parfum" as an ingredient. Because the FDA does not require for cosmetic products to disclose a transparent ingredient list when using these fragrances, this is how many products are able to list synthetic fragrances without disclosing it on its label. Our pledge to you and ourselves has always been to never use synthetic fragrances in any of our products, but instead essential oils. Essential oils are the extracts of concentrated plant oils. Some of these oils are often mixed with carrier oils which are great for assisting the essential oils "carrying" to your skin and diluting them so that they aren't too overwhelming.

  • just how long will this bar of soap last me?

This is a really good question! Because everyone's bathing habits won't be and are not the same, it's pretty much impossible to give a true and honest answer. What we suggest is to always store your bars in a dry area. Leaving them in pools of water will most certainly disintegrate and disable you from getting much use. Following some of our best practices which we've included on our labels and here, will leave you with a bar you'll be able to truly enjoy.

  • I have dry/sensitive skin, will your soap help?

Our aim has always been to provide an alternative to many of the soaps offered on the market today that do much harm, not only to skin, but other organs and bodily functions. While our objective is to provide clean/natural products, we don't want to project the idea that we are a company for skincare. We've tested every batch of our soaps after production and have included ingredients that assist in promoting healthy skin. As with any new product, we suggest consulting with a healthcare provider to ensure our products will be beneficial for you.

  • do your products include allergens? will I have an allergic reaction?

Each person's skin is unique to them and although our products are tested, there is a chance that someone's skin doesn't agree with a particular ingredient. When trying a new product, we recommend testing the formula on a small patch of skin first.

  • can I use your soap bars on my baby/children?

Short answer: Yes! All of our soaps are formulated with ingredients that are intended for use by both adults and children alike. For younger children, monitor use. We suggest applying products to a small patch of skin first. If rash occurs, please discontinue use and consult a physician.
